Born June 18, 1915, Trudy has been known to say she was born at the right time in history.  She remembers when there were very few airplanes or cars around.  Ice was delivered daily by horse cart.  Train tracks were placed over the frozen Susquehanna River at Havre de Grace, MD during the winter. She marveled at all the changes that came her way and was humbled and grateful for the experiences she encountered throughout her life.

Borrell, a resident of the Sagepoint Senior Living Services in La Plata, celebrated her 100th birthday Friday — with family, friends and Sagepoint staff. Charles County commissioners’ President Peter F. Murphy (D) presented Borrell with a certificate in recognition of her 100th birthday.

If you were in a serious accident that left you temporarily or permanently unable to make your own medical decisions, who would make them for you?

Sagepoint Senior Living Services is pleased to present Paul Ballard, J.D., Assistant Attorney General, for a discussion on what advance healthcare directives are and why they are so crucial for everyone to have. The discussion will cover how you can take control of your healthcare decisions by creating an advance directive. Should a situation ever arise where you are no longer able to make healthcare choices yourself, having an advance directive can provide great comfort to you and your family.

Making Sense of Living Wills and Other Advance Directives is the first of Sagepoint’s Community Education Series. The purpose of this series is to help educate members of the Southern Maryland community on a variety of topics related to health and aging. We hope that you will benefit from this informative session and find it useful for you and your family. Adults as well as their adult children are highly encouraged to attend. Consider coming with a friend.

CCNRC is Now Sagepoint Senior Living: Same Sage Advice. Same Trusted Senior Care. Brand New Name.

Sagepoint Senior Living: Same Sage Advice. Same Trusted Senior Care. Brand New Name.

LA PLATA, Md. (March/April 2015)

For more than a decade, I’ve been fortunate to be part of a great nonprofit, community-focused organization that many families in Southern Maryland have known as the CCNRC Family of Care.

Over the past 30 years, thousands of people have turned to us for senior services and high quality care- at CCNRC, at our Assisted Living residence Abbey Manor, and at Homeplace, our innovative residence for Memory Care. I’m proud to say that in a recent survey, 100% of the families we serve said they would recommend our care.

But for many local families- and for too long- we’ve remained the region’s “best kept secret” in senior care. So when our Board of Directors and leadership staff began planning for the future, we realized it was time for a change. We needed a single recognizable name that helped link all the services we offer seniors and their families.

Resident’s 100th Birthday Celebration

Family, Friends, Caregivers Turn Out To Celebrate 100th Birthday For Resident

LA PLATA, Md. (March 25, 2015)

cwhalen2015

When Catherine Whalen was born March 22, 1915, women still didn’t have the right to vote in the U.S. The World War I Siege of Przemysl, a huge defeat for the Austro-Hungarian Empire, ended that day. Babe Ruth had just begun playing Major League Baseball for the Boston Red Sox. Whalen, a resident of the Sagepoint Senior Living Services in La Plata, celebrated her 100th birthday Friday — with family, friends and Sagepoint staff.

Erin Young, Sagepoint activities director, said the facility’s staff knew Whalen’s 100th birthday was approaching and “to make it as fabulous as possible,” arranged for family and friends to attend Friday’s celebration. Charles County commissioners’ President Peter F. Murphy (D) presented Whalen with a certificate in recognition of her 100th birthday.

Accolades and Top-Rankings

At Sagepoint, we’re committed to continual improvement in our quality of care. It’s our mission to provide excellence in rehabilitation and aging services, and our vision to set the standards for care and innovation. We’re proud of our staff who helps us deliver top quality care by these measures and others:

Highly Recommended

Who better to trust with such an important decision than your neighbors? Sagepoint has been a leader in caregiving on the local scene for many years now — and our community agrees. We’ve been the proud recipient of the Southern Maryland News Reader’s Choice Award for two years in a row.

Top-Performing Facility

Each year, US News and World Report ranks long- and short-term care facilities. Their comprehensive guidelines outline the standard metrics they use to determine their ratings. Sagepoint has received five stars for the past two years. We are one of just 38 nursing homes in the state to earn this honor in 2021, out of the 226 they reviewed.

Named Best in Nation

We have also been noticed for excellence in care on the national stage. Newsweek compiles a list of the Best Nursing Homes in the Nation annually. Sagepoint has been at the top of this list for two years running — placing amongst the best five facilities overall in both 2020 and 2021.
